We all know Hakeem Olajuwon. The legendary 7’0 foot center had an amazing career. Hakeem Olajuwon was drafted by the Houston Rockets in 1984 and stayed with them until 2001, when he was involved in a sign and trade to the Toronto Raptors. He ended his career with 1 MVP, 2 Finals MVPs, 2 championships, 12 All-Star selections, 6 All NBA First Team selections, 3 All NBA Second Team selections, 3 All NBA Third Team selections, 5 All NBA Defensive First Team selections, 4 All NBA Defensive Second Team selections, 2 Time Defensive Player of the Year selections, 2 time NBA Rebounding Leader, 3 time NBA Blocks Leader, and he got his jersey retired. Olajuwon is also the NBA’s all time blocks leader with 3,830 blocks. His two championship wins came in the 1993-1994 season and 1994-1995 season.
Every NBA player’s goal is to see the gold and diamond ring around their finger after winning a championship. However, Hakeem Olajuwon was never able to have the ring around his finger due to his religious beliefs. Hakeem Olajuwon is Muslim, and the Islamic faith prohibits Islamic men from wearing any kind of gold. Due to Hakeem not being able to wear his gold ring, he auctioned it off. The next season that the Rockets won the Finals, in the 1994-95 season, the Rockets made a ring made out of platinum. They made the platinum ring so Olajuwon could wear it. Here is what it looks like.
